I love what I do and I embrace every opportunity to work at my craft. My clients can attest to this, by my dedicated approach to my work and their requirements. During the course of my career, I have also worked as an in–house studio designer and creative director, which better enables me to understand my client's needs & perspectives. No one can work in a vacuum as our client's changes are a part of our business. I understand this process and as my clients can attest I'm always open and a team player. When I'm not on the MAC or hanging out with family and friends you'll find me on one of my various bikes fighting gravity and smiling.
We all get sprung from the womb fully formed with a pencil in our hand and start drawing. With that in mind, I'll skip the usual early childhood monotony. At 14, I completed my first commercial illustration for Elho Ski Wear, Montreal. With that pay check, I purchased an airbrush and began exploring its fascinating smooth and realistic effects. Thus began the sometimes hair pulling, love–hate affair with airbrushing that would last until Photoshop finally dethroned airbrushing from the commercial art world as the main method of achieving realistic imagery during the mid 1990's.
Theory in Practice:I attended Concordia University, Pavilion des beaux arts in Montreal for foundation year and The Alberta College of Art in Calgary for 1 year of studio drawing and then 3 years of Visual Communications, graduating in 1986 with a diploma in Visual Communications. I moved to Toronto and started doing paste–up, film stripping and various production jobs while showing my illustration portfolio to the art directors & designers for whom I was doing production work. By being persistent and lucky, the illustration work soon took over from the production jobs and since then (1987), I've had the opportunity to work with a multitude of clients across North America.
Going Digital:In 1996 I purchased a MAC 8500 (instead of that new car) and started taking various courses to get up to speed. Soon enough, the migraine inducing leap to MAC was accomplished and digital image creation soon became enjoyable, especially when it came to making client's alterations. PhotoShop and Illustrator are incredible creative tools. When combined with traditional sensitivities, sound production knowledge and a obsessive attention to detail, a great result can be delivered consistently.
